Total option volume is back up at 6 million contracts so far today with bullish action in major indexes and ETFs, according to optionMONSTER data systems.
More than 1.1 million options have changed hands in the SPDR S&P 500 Fund (:SPY), with a relatively low 625,000 puts. Next up are the S&P 500 Index (:SPX) options at 295,000 as calls just outpace puts.
The PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) has seen 245,000 contracts change hands, with 128,000 calls. Just behind are the iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) options at 244,000, led by 180,000 puts.
The CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) has 221,000 options traded, with 154,000 calls. The iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Note (:VXX) has turned over 111,000 options, with 64,000 puts. The iShares Emerging Markets Fund (EEM) has 74,000 contracts moving, with 43,000 puts.
