Total option volume is strong again today as more than 7.2 million contracts change hands, with action that is decidedly less bearish in the indexes and ETFs, according to optionMONSTER data systems.
More than 1.2 million options have already turned over in SPDR S&P 500 Fund (:SPY), with 751,000 puts. Next up are the iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) options at 340,000, with a put/call ratio of 2 to 1.
The S&P 500 Index (:SPX) has 250,000 options traded, also with puts outpacing calls by 2 to 1. Just behind are the iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Note (VXX) options at 240,000, with 135,000 puts. And just behind that are the CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) options at 230,000, and 121,000 calls.
The SPDR Financial Fund (XLF) has 148,000 contracts changing hands, led by 112,000 puts. And the SPDR Gold Shares Fund (:GLD) has 117,000 traded, evenly split between calls and puts.
