Total option volume has picked up from yesterday's anemic pace but is still light at 4.8 million contracts, with puts again topping the action in the indexes and ETFs, according to optionMONSTER's data systems.
The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (SPY) has 637,000 options traded, led by 419,000 puts. The PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) has seen 305,000 contracts change hands, 190,000 of which are puts.
The CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) options have turned over 169,000 times, with 100,000 puts. Just behind are the iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) options at 168,000, and a put/call ratio of 4 to 1.
The S&P 500 Index (:SPX) has 152,000 contracts traded, with 85,000 puts. The SPDR Gold Shares Fund (GLD) options follow at 63,000, with slightly more calls than puts.
