Total option volume tops 6.4 million contracts so far today, led by the usual index and ETFs, according to optionMONSTER data systems.
The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (:SPY) has 1.1 million options traded, with puts barely outpacing calls. The S&P 500 Index (:SPX) has seen 341,000 options move, also with a few more puts than calls.
The iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) has 208,000 contracts changing hands, with a put/call ratio of more than 2 to 1. Following are the CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) options at 185,000, led by 120,000 calls.
The PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) options are just behind with 178,000 contracts and puts outpacing calls by 2 to 1. The iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Note (:VXX) has 153,000 contracts trading, with 84,000 puts.
