Midday index, ETF option volumes

Total option volume is just above 5.1 million contracts so far today, with only a few of the big indexes and ETFS breaking the 100,000 mark, according to optionMONSTER's data systems.

The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (:SPY) has 650,000 options traded, with 362,000 puts. Next up are the S&P 500 Index (:SPX) options at 263,000, led by 152,000 puts.

The iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) has seen 173,000 contracts turn, with puts outpacing calls by 3 to 1. The CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) has 142,000 options, with 86,000 puts.

The PowerShares QQQ Trust (:QQQ) is barely above 100,000 and has a put/call ratio of just over 2 to 1.

The iShares Emerging Markets Fund (EEM) has 82,000 contracts changing hands, with slightly more calls than puts. The iShares Silver Fund (SLV) has 78,000 options traded, dominated by 72,000 calls.
