Total option volume is strong with today's market rally at more than 6.6 million contracts, and bullish sentiment again seems to reign in the indexes and ETFs, optionMONSTER's data systems show.
The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (SPY) has traded 1.3 million contracts, with 874,00 puts. Next up are the CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) options with 349,000, led by 193,000 puts.
The S&P 500 Index (:SPX) options have traded 265,000 times, with puts just barely outpacing calls. Just behind are the iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) contracts with 250,000, including 153,000 puts.
The PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) has 220,000 contracts changing hands, with puts just outpacing calls. The iShares Emerging Markets Fund (EEM) has 206,000 options traded, with calls outpacing puts by 4 to 1.
The iPath S&P 500 VIX Short- Term Futures Fund (VXX) has 114,000 options turning over, with an equal number of puts and calls. And the SPDR Gold Shares Fund (GLD) has 93,000 contracts traded, with 56,000 calls.
