Total option volume is just over 5.2 million contracts so far today, with mixed action in the top indexes and ETFs, according to optionMONSTER data systems.
The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (:SPY) has 652,000 options traded, with puts outpacing calls by almost 3 to 1. Next up are the iShares Emerging Markets Fund (EEM) options at 280,000, led by 180,000 calls.
The iShares Russell 2000 Fund (:IWM) has 134,000 contracts changing hands, with puts slightly outpacing calls. Just behind are the S&P 500 Index (:SPX) options at 134,000, with a put/call ratio of 3 to 1.
The iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Note (VXX) has seen 110,000 contracts turn over, with 66,000 puts. The SPDR Gold Shares Fund (GLD) has volume of 105,000, with calls slightly outnumbering puts. The PowerShares QQQ Trust (:QQQ) has 96,000 options traded, with 57,000 puts.
