Index, ETF option volumes at midday

Total option volume tops 5.9 million contracts so far today as bullish sentiment again pervades the major indexes and ETFs, according to optionMONSTER data systems.

More than 1.1 million options have traded in the SPDR S&P 500 Fund (:SPY), with 633,000 puts. The iShares Emerging Markets Fund (EEM) has 324,000 options traded, led by 234,000 calls. Following are the S&P 500 Index (:SPX) options at 272,000 as calls again lead the way with 158,000.

The PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) has 135,000 contracts changing hands, with 86,000 puts. Just behind and also with 135,000 options is the iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM), 96,000 of which were calls.

The CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) has seen 109,000 options trade, with 56,000 puts. The iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Future Note (:VXX) options have turned over 87,000 times, with 45,000 puts.
