Total option volume remains low today at 4.1 million so far, with mixed action in the indexes and ETFs, according to optionMONSTER's data systems.
The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (SPY) has 605,000 contracts traded, led by 386,000 puts. The iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) has seen 130,000 contracts change hands, with a put/call ratio of 2 to 1.
The PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) follows with 110,000 contracts, though 67,000 of those are calls. Just behind are the S&P 500 Index (:SPX) options at 108,000, dominated by 78,000 puts.
The CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) has 75,000 options turning over, with just slightly more calls than puts. The SPDR Gold Shares Fund (GLD) is next with 63,000 as calls outpace puts by more than 3 to 1. The U.S. Oil Fund (USO) has 67,000 options traded, with calls just outnumbering puts.
