The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (SPY) has 899,000 options traded, 624,000 of which are puts. Next up are the PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) contracts at 155,000. The S&P 500 Index (:SPX) options follow with 131,000, dominated by 95,000 puts.
The iShares Russell 2000 Index Fund (IWM) has seen 114,000 contracts change hands, evenly split between calls and puts in a departure from the day's trend. The iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (VXX) also has 114,000 contracts moving, with 67,000 puts.
The CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) has 99,000 options turning over, with calls outpacing puts by more than 2 to 1. The iShares Emerging Markets Fund (EEM) has 87,000 options traded, 69,000 of which are puts.
