The typical names top the activity in the leading indexes and ETFs as total option volume remains relatively light at 4.4 million contracts, optionMONSTER's data systems show.
More than 515,000 SPDR S&P 500 Fund (SPY) options have traded so far today, with 326,000 puts. The CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) has 196,000 options changing hands, 126,000 of which are calls.
The PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) has seen 165,000 turn over, with calls outpacing puts by more than 2 to 1 in unusual action. The S&P 500 Index (:SPX) options have traded 118,000 times, led by 80,000 puts.
The SPDR Financial Fund (XLF) has volume of 103,000 options that are evenly split between calls and puts. Just behind are the iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) options at 101,000 and a 2-to-1 put/call ratio.
The iShares Silver Fund (SLV) has 73,000 contracts moving, with slightly more calls than puts. The SPDR Gold Shares Fund (GLD) options have changed hands 56,000 options times, with slightly more puts than calls.
