Option volume is relatively light at 4.4 million so far today, with mixed action in the indexes and ETFs, according to optionMONSTER's data systems.
The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (SPY) has 518,000 options traded, with 364,000 puts. The SPDR Gold Shares Fund (GLD) volume just jumped up to 165,000 contracts, dominated by 132,000 calls.
The CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) has 155,000 options turning over, with calls outpacing puts by 4 to 1. The S&P 500 Index (:SPX) options aren't far behind at 141,000, but in unusual action 80,000 calls outpace the puts.
The PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) has 118,000 contracts changing hands, 52,000 of which are calls. The iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (VXX) sees 92,000 contracts trading, led by 78,000 calls. Just behind are the iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) with 88,000, 68,000 of which are puts.
