Total option volume has reached 5.6 million contracts so far today, dominated by major indexes and ETFs, according to optionMONSTER data systems.
The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (:SPY) has 890,000 options traded, with a put/call ratio of 2 to 1. Next up are the CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) options at 338,000, with 187,000 puts. The S&P 500 Index (:SPX) options follow at 286,000, with 164,000 puts.
The iShares Emerging Markets Fund (EEM) has 152,000 contracts changing hands as puts outpace calls by 2 to 1. The iShares Japan Fund (:EWJ) has 136,000 options traded. with a put/call ratio of 10 to 1.
The PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) has seen 129,000 options turn over, evenly split between calls and puts. The iShares China 25 Fund (FXI) has 115,000 options traded, with 75,000 calls. (See related story )
