Total option volume tops 6.1 million contracts so far today even though the CBOE is not currently trading, which has created unusual index and ETF volumes, optionMONSTER data systems show.
More than 1.1 million options of the SPDR S&P 500 Fund (:SPY) have traded, with puts slightly outpacing calls. The S&P 500 Index (:SPX) and CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) options, both mainstays in the top-10 volume list, aren't trading because of the issues at the CBOE.
The iShares Russell 2000 Fund (:IWM) has 207,000 contracts changing hands, with a put/call ratio of 3 to 1. The PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) has seen 134,000 options turn over, with 75,000 puts.
The SPDR Gold Shares Fund (GLD) has 105,000 contracts traded, with puts just outnumbering calls. The iShares Emerging Markets Fund (:EEM) has 100,000 options moving, with 57,000 puts. The iShares Silver Fund (SLV) has 94,000 options traded, led by 71,000 calls. (See related story )
