Total option volume remains relatively light at 4.8 million so far today, with only two names breaking the 100,000 mark in the indexes and ETFs, optinoMONSTER's data systems show.
The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (SPY) has seen 600,000 contracts trade, with 352,000 puts. The S&P 500 Index (:SPX) options are the only other name to break 100,000, and just barely at that, with volume of 109,000 led by 68,000 puts.
The iShares Emerging Markets Fund (EEM) has 85,000 contracts changing hands, 55,000 of which are puts. Not far behind are the iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) options at 77,000, with 45,000 puts.
The SPDR S&P 500 Gold Shares Fund (GLD) has 61,000 contracts turning over, with calls outpacing puts by 2 to 1. Just behind are the iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (VXX) contracts at 59,000, 38,000 of which are calls. The CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) has 58,000 moving, with 38,000 calls.
