Total option volume is just over 5.3 million contracts so far today, with major indexes and ETFs making up most of that action, optionMONSTER data systems show.
The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (:SPY) has seen 846,000 trade, with a put/call ratio of 2 to 1. Next up are the iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) options at 195,000, dominated by 165,000 puts.
The S&P 500 Index (:SPX) has 169,000 contracts changing hands, with puts outpacing calls by more than 2 to 1. Not far behind are the PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) options at 153,000, led by 94,000 puts.
Option volume in the iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Note (VXX) and the CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) both just top 100,000 contracts, and both have about 65,000 calls.
