Option volume is picking up slightly today at 5.1 million contracts traded so far, with mixed action in the indexes and ETFs, optionMONSTER's data systems show.
The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (SPY) has 900,000 options changing hands, led by 500,000 puts. Next up are the PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) options at 248,000, with puts slightly outpacing calls.
The iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) sees 144,000 contracts turning over, 93,000 of which are puts. Just behind are the S&P 500 Index (:SPX) options with volume of 138,000 and a put/call ratio of 2 to 1.
The iShares Silver Fund (SLV) options have traded 92,000 times, also with a put/call ratio of 2 to 1. The SPDR Gold Shares Fund (GLD) has seen 72,000 move, also with puts outnumbering calls. The iShares Emerging Markets Fund (EEM) options have changed hands 71,000 times, with 56,000 puts.
