Total option volume is 5.9 million contracts so far today, with mixed action in the leading indexes and ETFs, optionMONSTER's data systems show.
The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (SPY) has 754,000 contracts traded, led by 482,000 puts. Next up are the CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) options with 478,000 contracts, dominated by 428,000 calls.
The SPDR Financial Fund (XLF) has seen 175,000 options change hands but has calls outpacing with 110,000. Similar action is seen in the PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) options, with volume of 150,000 led by 92,000 calls. Just behind are the S&P 500 Index (:SPX) options, also at 150,000 but with 85,000 puts.
The iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) has 96,000 contracts turning over, with a put/call ratio of 2 to 1. Following closely are the iShares Brazil Fund (EWZ) options, also at 96,000, with 56,000 puts.
The iShares Silver Fund (SLV) and the SPDR Gold Shares Fund (GLD) both have 83,000 options traded. The SLV has slightly more puts than calls, while the GLD is pretty evenly split.
