Option volume has just picked up to 5.6 million contracts, with bearish sentiment in major indexes and ETFs, according to optionMONSTER data systems.
More than 1 million options have traded in the SPDR S&P 500 Fund (:SPY) with a put/call ratio of 2 to 1. Next up is the iShares Russell 2000 Fund (:IWM) at 231,000 contracts with 168,000 puts. Just behind at 230,000 contracts are the CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) options with 122,000 calls.
The PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) has 161,000 contracts changing hands, 98,000 of which are puts. The iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Note (:VXX) has 148,000 options traded, with 87,000 calls.
The iShares Emerging Markets Fund (EEM) has seen 128,000 options turn over, with puts outpacing calls by 3 to 1. And the SPDR Gold Shares Fund (GLD) has 66,000 options traded, with 37,000 calls.
