The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (SPY) has 1 million options traded, 606,000 of which are puts. The S&P 500 Index (SPX) options turn over 160,000 times, with a put-to-call ratio of more than 3-1. Not far behind is the CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) with 147,000 contracts, 112,000 of which are calls.
The iShares China 25 Fund (FXI) sees 117,000 contracts turn over, with puts outpacing calls 5-1. Just behind are the PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) options with 116,000, with 61,000 puts.
The iPath S&P 500 VIX Short Term Futures Fund (VXX) has 104,000 options traded, with calls outnumbering puts 2-1. The iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) has 95,000, with 59,000 puts. And the SPDR Gold Shares Fund (GLD) has 84,000 options traded, with calls outpacing puts 2-1.
