Total option volume is light again with just 4.2 million changing hands so far today, with hedging apparently leading the action in indexes and ETFs, optionMONSTER's data systems show.
The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (SPY) has just 471,000 options traded with a put/call ratio of 2 to 1. Next up are the CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) at 178,000, led by 120,000 calls.
The iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) has seen 153,000 contracts turn over, with 108,000 puts. Just behind are the S&P 500 Index (:SPX) options at 143,000 options, with a put/call ratio of 2 to 1.
The PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) has 85,000 options changing hands, with slightly more puts than calls. The SPDR Oil & Gas Exploration & Production Fund (XOP) follows closely with 82,000 contracts, dominated by 80,000 puts.
The iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Note (VXX) has 78,000 optoins traded, with 47,000 calls. (See related story )
