Total option volume is light at just 4.1 million options so far today, with relatively bearish sentiment in major indexes and ETFs, according to optionMONSTER's data systems.
The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (SPY) has 505,000 options traded, with 361,000 puts. Next up are the S&P 500 Index (:SPX) options at 157,000, with a put/call ratio of 4 to 1.
The iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) has 111,000 contracts changing hands, led by 85,000 puts. Not far behind are the iShares Emerging Markets Fund (EEM) options at volume of 101,000, with 60,000 puts. The PowerShares QQQ Trust (:QQQ) has 93,000 contracts turning over, with slightly more puts than calls.
The CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) and the related iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Note (:VXX) both have 67,000 options traded. In the VIX, calls are outpacing with 45,000, while the VXX puts lead with 40,000.
