Total option volume is again light at just 4.2 million contracts so far today, but bullish sentiment is growing in major indexes and ETFs, optionMONSTER's data systems show.
The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (SPY) has 537,000 options traded, and for the second session in a row, calls are outpacing puts at this time of day. The S&P 500 Index (:SPX) options have changed hands 179,000 times, with 107,000 puts. Just behind are the CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) options at 170,000, led by 100,000 calls.
The SPDR Gold Shares Fund (GLD) has 117,000 contracts turning over, with 77,000 calls. The iShares Emerging Markets Fund (EEM) has 86,000 options trading, with calls outnumbering puts by more than 4 to 1.
The PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) options follow with volume of 86,000, also with calls outpacing puts. The iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) has seen 72,000 contracts move, 47,000 of which are puts.
