Total option volume tops 5 million contracts so far today with mixed sentiment in the index and ETF activity, optionMONSTER's data systems show.
The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (NYSEArca:SPY) has 680,000 contracts trading as puts outpace calls by 2 to 1. Next up is the SPDR Gold Shares Fund (NYSEArca:GLD) with 160,000 contracts, 100,000 of which are calls.
The S&P 500 Index (SPX) options have turned over 149,000 times, including 106,000 puts. Just behind is the Russell 2000 Fund (NYSEArca:IWM) with 143,000 contracts traded.
The iShares Emerging Markets Fund (NYSEArca:EEM) has seen 127,000 options change hands, with a put/call ratio of 1 to 2. The CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) has contracts 98,000 traded, 65,000 of them calls.
The PowerShares QQQ Trust (NasdaqGM:QQQ) has seen 89,000 options move, and the iShares Silver Fund (NYSEArca:SLV) has 61,000 trade.
