Index, ETF option volumes near midday
More than 7.9 million options have traded so far today, with the typical index and ETF options making up most of the action.
The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (:SPX) has 1 million options traded, with a put/call ratio of 2 to 1. The iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) has 436,000 contracts changing hands, led by 362,000 puts. Next up are the S&P 500 Index (:SPX) options at 201,000, with 114,000 puts.
Not far behind are the CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) contracts at 190,000, with 116,000 calls. The SPDR Gold Shares Fund (:GLD) has seen 189,000 options turn over, with slightly more puts than calls.
The PowerShares QQQ Trust (:QQQ) has 167,000 options moving, with 94,000 puts. The iShares Silver Fund (:SLV) has 120,000 options, with 64,000 calls. The iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Note (:VXX) has 110,000 options traded, with 66,000 calls.
