DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture reports 55 percent of Iowa's corn crop and 87 percent of the soybean crop have been harvested.
The weekly report released Monday showed the corn crop was about 5 percentage points behind normal. The soybean harvest was about two days ahead of normal.
Iowa Agriculture Secretary Bill Northey noted that farmers spent long days in the fields in anticipation of expected soggy weather that could slow the remaining harvest.
Farmers harvested about 20 percent of the corn crop last week and about 17 percent of the soybean crop.
The report says 51 percent of pastures were in fair, good or excellent condition. The rest was rated very poor or poor.
