ISCI has formed The International Stem Cell Practice (ISCP) to meet two very specific needs in the field of stem cell medicine: physician education and patient follow up. With the creation of this global network, the ISCI hopes to provide a highly scalable and versatile solution to serve the needs of both of these crucial audiences.
Working with a state-of-the art laboratory and a fully integrative medical facility in Cancun, Mexico, the ISCI and the ISCP will provide a venue for hands-on training in regenerative medicine as well as educational opportunities for physicians to exchange best practices and explore emerging trends in the field. The ISCP will also be hosting a series of regional meetings throughout the United States and Latin America to foster professional collaboration.
The main focus of the network, however, will be providing initial evaluation and long-term follow up for patients participating in the clinical studies of the ISCI. Members of the ISCP will work directly with the ISCI in providing medical oversight and care to patients participating in clinical studies.
"Long-term follow and data collection have always been one of the weakest elements of regenerative medicine," says David Audley, CEO of the ISCI. "This has been exacerbated by the fact that most patients must travel a great distance to get treatments, and it is next to impossible for the clinics to conduct thorough follow up." By connecting the patient to a local physician prior to their treatment, the ISCI assures not only that a thorough and independent evaluation of the patient is taken but also that it is logistically feasible for patients to visit a physician for post-treatment follow up and testing. "This network, with its connection between patients and local physicians, provides the final piece that has been missing in stem cell medicine," continues Mr. Audley. "This will allow us to finally collect the data needed to evidence outcomes and advance the field."
