Honda's US sales rose 13 percent on strong gains by redesigned 2013 Accord

TORRANCE, Calif. (AP) -- American Honda Motor Co. said Friday that U.S. sales in January rose nearly 13 percent, led by a redesigned version of the venerable Accord.

BY THE NUMBERS: American Honda said that it sold 93,626 vehicles last month, up from 83,009 in January 2012. Car sales rose 21 percent while trucks gained just 4 percent. Sales for Honda and Acura grew at about the same rate.

TOP SELLER: Accord sales jumped 75 percent to 23,924 from a year earlier. The Civic was close behind at 21,881, down 4 percent.

HOT MODELS: Sales of Acura's RDX small SUV nearly tripled to 2,489 from 884 a year earlier.
