NEW YORK (AP) -- JetBlue's popular "All You Can Jet" pass has gone to the dogs. Or cats.
The New York airline said Wednesday that it will offer an unspecified number of $299 unlimited flight passes for furry friends through Sept. 5. Pets will be able to travel on any flight between Sept. 7 and Dec. 31 — as long as they're accompanied by their owners.
JetBlue normally charges $200 for a pet on a round-trip flight. JetBlue Airways Corp. only allows cats and small dogs (less than 20 pounds) in the cabin and doesn't transport larger dogs in the belly of the plane. Pets are allowed everywhere JetBlue flies except Jamaica, Barbados, and Saint Lucia.
Those travelers that buy the pass on Wednesday will also earn extra frequent flier miles.
The "All Your Pet Can Jet" pass is nonrefundable after Sept. 5. It's not valid on JetBlue's partner airlines. Pets can't be booked online.
The human version of the pass was first started in 2009. It let people travel to an unlimited number of cities over a one-month period. The airline brought it back in 2010, but since has offered more focused versions that cater to business travelers. The latest incarnation of the pass is called "Go Pack" and offers 10 flights from Boston; New York's JFK; Long Beach, CA; and San Juan, Puerto Rico to various cities for a flat price, ranging from $699 to $2499.
The passes are meant to spur travel in one of the weakest periods of the year, after most of the nation's kids go back to school.
