Judge denies Apple request

A District Court judge ruled that Samsung did not willfully infringe on Apple's (AAPL) patents when it incorporated the inventions into its smartphones. The decision foiled Apple's efforts to increase the $1.05 bil in damages a jury awarded it last Aug. If the patent infringements were ruled to be willful, the court could have tripled the damage award to more than $3 bil. The same court in Dec. denied Apple's request for an injunction on the sale of some Samsung smartphones in the U.S. Shares fell 0.3%.
