COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- One of the country's largest grocery store chains wants a say in whether American Electric Power Co. should require its Ohio customers to pick up a $62 million tab for repairs from last summer's severe storms.
Cincinnati-based Kroger Co. said in a filing late Monday the reimbursement would have a big impact on its electric costs because AEP serves numerous Kroger facilities consuming significant amounts of electricity.
The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio is weighing the utility's request. The majority of it covers money the company spent bringing in out-of-state workers.
Storms last summer left nearly half of AEP's 1.5 million customers without power, some for more than a week.
Dozens of AEP customers have written regulators asking them to reject the request.
