Weekly claims for unemployment insurance decrease by 1 in Louisiana

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- First-time claims for unemployment insurance in Louisiana for the week ending April 20, decreased slightly from the previous week's total.

The state labor department figures released Friday show the initial claims dropped to 2,619 from the previous week's total of 2,620. Initial claims were below the comparable week for the previous year, which totaled 3,076.

The four-week moving average, which is a less volatile measure of claims, increased to 2,337 from the previous week's total of 2,196.

Continued unemployment claims claimed for the week ending April 20 rose to 22,934 compared to the previous week's total of 22,761. The four-week moving average for such claims decreased to 23,088 from the previous week's average of 23,460.
