Largest option buying in equities so far

Nearing the halfway mark in today's session, here are the individual equity names with the most call and put buying on optionMONSTER's ActionTracker data system.

MannKind (MNKD): An investor closed a short position in the January 5 calls and rolled it up to the January 9 strike at a cost of $1.15. He or she probably owns shares and now has the right to sell them for $4 more. More than 31,000 contracts traded at both strikes. MNKD rose 18 percent to $6.32.

Huntsman (HUN): Some 22,000 June 19 calls were sold for $1.30 and an equal number of July 20 calls were bought for $1.15. Volume was below open interest in the 19s, indicating that a long position was closed and rolled to the higher strike. The investor collected a credit of $0.15 and has an additional month of upside exposure. HUN rose 0.20 percent to $19.75.

J.C. Penney (JCP): A block of 5,000 June 15 puts were bought as an investor positions for downside in the department-store operator. JCP rose 1.69 percent to $19.30.
