SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Cellular phone carrier Leap Wireless International Inc. said Thursday that its chief financial officer, Walter Berger, will step down from his role to take up a position in the technology sector after the company files its annual report sometime next month.
No replacement was immediately named.
CEO Doug Hutcheson said Berger had played an important role in improving the company's operating and financial performance in nearly four years on the job.
Leap's Cricket cellphone service is the seventh largest in the nation.
The company plans to release its fourth-quarter earnings results on Feb. 16 after the markets close.
Shares of Leap, which is based in San Diego, rose 23 cents, or 2.5 percent, to $9.48 after hours after closing down 49 cents, or 5 percent, at $9.25.
