No one wants to be stuck in an airport, sitting for hours with nothing to do. But what if you could fill your down time with a massage or yummy eats from a renowned restaurant, or let your kids burn off some energy at a huge playground, all without leaving the airport?
If you think that sounds too good to be true, you’re wrong. According to Wendy Perrin of Travel Truth, many U.S. airports feature traveler-friendly activities, businesses and attractions for you or your entire family to enjoy.
So instead of grumbling the next time your flight is delayed by several hours at one of the popular airports below, you might want to make the most of your time by trying one of Perrin’s many suggestions. Among them:
Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson . Sleep tight, but don’t miss your flight. You can catch up on a few ZZZs or some quiet relaxation at Minute Suites, which offers a handful of private, noise-neutralized rooms for $34 an hour (Concourse B, near Gate B16).
Chicago O’Hare . Check out Kids on the Fly, where the littlest travelers can play in a huge interactive, educational playground (Terminal 2).
Dallas-Fort Worth . Just a five-minute cab ride from the airport, you can golf a quick nine at Bear Creek Golf Club.
Denver International . Denver chef Justin Cucci’s field-to-fork restaurant Root Down is a popular choice for hungry travelers (C gates).
Los Angeles International . Go gourmet at the Petrossian, which features caviar, blinis and champagne, as well as 20 different vodkas.
Newark Liberty . “The outposts of two legendary Manhattan eateries, Gallagher’s steak house and the Grand Central Oyster Bar, may lack the ambience of their flagships but serve great grub nonetheless,” Perrin said. (Terminal C.)
