AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) -- Maine's Labor Department says the state's unemployment rate was 7.6 percent in August, unchanged from July.
Labor Commissioner Jeanne Paquette said Friday that the August jobless rate also changed little from 7.5 percent a year earlier. The figures reflect seasonal fluctuations in the labor market.
Maine's August unemployment rate is below the national unemployment rate for the month of 8.1 percent, which is down from 8.3 percent in July.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates there were 591,300 nonfarm payroll jobs in Maine in August, down 1,900 from the revised July estimate.
