A Malindo Air Boeing 737-900ER on Monday successfullylanded on Runway 3 of the world's largest purpose-built terminalfor low-cost carriers, klia2, signalling that the terminal mightbe ready for its official opening on May 2 next year.
Acting Minister of Transport Hishammuddin Hussein, whowitnessed the trial landing, promptly gave his assurance thatthe terminal is on course to begin operations on the targetedday, and that it is safe for aircraft to land on the runway.
The 268.8 mln rgt ($84.28 mln) third runway is 3,960m longand 60m wide and is capable of accommodating any type ofaircraft including the Airbus A380 and the Antonov An-225.
The runway, separated from the second runway by 2.2km, isKUB Malaysia Bhd's maiden project in airportconstruction. The trial landing was to test the smoothness ofRunway 3 as well as the precision approach path indicator systemand the approach lights.-The Edge

Malaysia Marine Heavy Engineering Bhd and itstechnical partner, Technip, have secured a substantialcontract from Petronas Carigali Bhd for an engineering,procurement, construction, installation and commissioning(EPCIC) job.
While the actual value of the contract was not disclosed,Technip described it as anything between euro250 mln (1.07 blnrgt) and euro500 mln (2.1 bln rgt) as substantial.
MHB said its subsidiary, Malaysia Marine and HeavyEngineering Sdn Bhd (MMHE), along with Technip, had received thecontract for the development of two gas fileds in Block SK316.
The fields are located approcimately 180km north of Bintulu,Sarawak, at a water depth of 104m.- The Edge.
