Nissan March US sales rise 12.5 percent on higher demand for Altima

FRANKLIN, Tenn. (AP) -- Nissan Motor Co. said its March U.S. sales rose 12.5 percent from the same month last year, led by higher demand of the Altima midsize sedan. It was a record for any month in the company's history.

BY THE NUMBERS: Combined, the Nissan and Infiniti brands sold 136,317 vehicles in March, up from 121,141 a year earlier.

TOP SELLERS: The Japanese automaker said sales of the Altima rose 27 percent to 41,050 in March from 32,289 a year ago.

HOT MODELS: Sales of the Quest minivan jumped 80 percent to 2,596. Sales of the Leaf electric car nearly doubled to 579 in March.
