BOSTON (AP) -- Two organizations say Massachusetts' residential real estate market took a small step back last month following five consecutive months of higher sales.
The Warren Group on Tuesday reported a 5 percent decline in sales of single-family homes in December when compared to the same month a year ago. The Massachusetts Association of Realtors announced a drop of less than half of 1 percent.
The Warren Group said for the entire year, sales dropped 6 percent from 2010 to the lowest level since 1990, although there was good news in the fourth quarter when sales jumped compared to the year-ago quarter.
The Realtors association and the Warren Group reported a roughly 4 percent decrease in the median selling price compared to the year-ago month.
The organizations use slightly different methods in their calculations.
