LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Sept. 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Maverick Transportation held a grand opening ceremony last month, introducing a state-of-the-art driver training facility that will help train and develop America's next generation of professional truck drivers. "We are proud to make a substantial investment in our community, our employees, our veterans, and in the safety of America's roadways with our new driver training facility," said Maverick's Chairman and CEO Steve Williams at the grand opening ceremony of the new $4 million facility. "We want this to be a career of choice, not of last resort. We are committed to attracting, training and retaining the industry's safest and most professional drivers."

Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe was on hand for the grand opening and praised both Williams and Maverick, saying they "are the best I have ever seen at what they do." Adding, "We've got some great trucking companies in Arkansas. Arkansas is noted for great trucking companies. This is the best. This is absolutely the best."

Maverick's new training facility comes on the heels of the announcement of their recent partnership with the US Chamber of Commerce's Hiring our Heroes' program, where they have committed to making a concerted focus on hiring veterans. "We are delighted that Maverick Transportation has committed to hiring 1,000 veterans over the next two years," said Eric Eversole, Executive Director of Hiring Our Heroes.

"A driving career at Maverick is a perfect fit for many military men and women. The high level of dedication and discipline it takes to serve in the Armed Forces transfers over well to what we call doing things 'The Maverick Way.' The Maverick Way includes highly structured training, continuously striving for excellence in all we do and an unwavering emphasis on quality and safety," said Maverick's Director of Recruiting, Brad Vaughn.

"Maverick is a rare leader in the trucking industry," says Bill McLennan, CEO of FASTPORT. "They have remained loyal to the highest standards of driver safety while committing to hiring our Nation's best talent pool - our veterans. They are simply an awesome employer."
