McDonald’s Corporation (MCD) reports that its performance by segment includes United States’ up by 3 percent, Europe’s rose by 3.1 percent, and that of its Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa region increased by 5.7 percent.
Merck & Co. Inc.’s (MRK) promising new products such as Suvorexant, along with a strong dividend yield of 3.8 percent, should have investors buying shares for some time to come, according to Barron’s. Further, decreases in headcount plus synergies from its purchase of Schering-Plough have boosted the firm’s margin and growth outlook. Investors might also appreciate the double-digit profit and operating margins, and a healthy balance sheet.
Microsoft Corporation (MSFT): Shares of the Chinese Internet company Qihoo 360 Technology Co. Ltd. (QIHU) are steady following the online publication TechInAsia reporting that the firm’s search engine would begin using Google’s (GOOG) advertising system. Qihoo Chief Executive Zhou Hongyi was quoted by TechInAsia, citing the Chinese language publication Sina Tech, reported that Qihoo’s search engine will, as does Google, supply both paid and unpaid search results. Inaddition, Zhou said that the company will utilize an open platform which will distribute its content to many other sites, remarking that Qihoo could work together with Google, Microsoft, and Sohu.com Inc. (SOHU) in the future. In early Turesday trading, Qihoo rose 85 cents, or 3.71 percent, to $23.77, while its search engine rival Baidu, Inc. (BIDU) fell by 19 cents to $108.97.
Pfizer Inc. (PFE) says that its pneumococcal conjugate vaccine, Prevenar 131, has won an expansion by the World Health Organization to its prequalification, to include adults 50 years of age and older against pneumonia and invasive disease which are caused by the 13 pneumococcal serotypes contained in the vaccine. Prevenar 13 had already beeny prequalified for active immunization of infants and children from ages six weeks through 5 years, against invasive pneumococcal disease, pneumonia and otitis media in August 2010.
