KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Financial services software maker DST Systems Inc. says Thomas McDonnell has retired as chief executive officer.

McDonnell is 66 years old and has been with the Kansas City-based company for more than 40 years. He announced his retirement Wednesday, effective immediately, but plans to remain as board chairman through December.

DST Systems has about 13,000 employees worldwide.

McDonnell was immediately succeeded as CEO by Stephen Hooley, DST Systems' president and chief operating officer.
