NEW YORK (AP) -- The McGraw-Hill Cos. said Wednesday that its board approved the increase of its quarterly cash dividend by 2.5 cents to 28 cents.

The new dividend, up nearly 10 percent over the previous dividend, will be paid on March 12 to shareholders of record as of Feb. 26.

McGraw-Hill has paid a dividend each year since 1937and has increased its dividend annually for the last 40 years.

McGraw-Hill shares rose 22 cents to $57.40 in afternoon trading.
