OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Sep 10, 2013) - The Canadian Coast Guard issued the following statement on the tragic events that unfolded on September 9, 2013:

"It was with great sorrow that we learned of the crash of the Coast Guard helicopter assigned to the CCGS Amundsen which resulted in the tragic loss of life of three individuals.

Among the victims was the Commanding Officer of the CCGS Amundsen, Mr. Marc Thibault, Mr. Daniel Dubé, the helicopter pilot, and Dr. Klaus Hochheim, a scientist with the University of Manitoba affiliated with the ArcticNet project.

Mr. Marc Thibault has been a trusted Commanding Officer and a devoted Coast Guard employee for 29 years.

Mr. Daniel Dubé was an experienced pilot who had flown a Coast Guard helicopter for 28 years.

Dr. Klaus Hochheim was a respected and passionate scientist who was committed to the pursuit of knowledge of marine ecosystems.

Our thoughts, prayers, and deepest sympathies are with the families and friends of those who were lost.

Every day the men and women of the Canadian Coast Guard put the safety of Canadians before their own and for their bravery we are forever grateful."
