Microchip (MCHP) Announces MOST Integration with AUTOSAR - Analyst Blog

Leading semiconductor manufacturer Microchip Technology Inc, MCHP recently announced that its MOST (Media Oriented Systems Transport) Intelligent Network Interface Controllers (INICs) can be used for cross-domain communication in an Automotive Open System Architecture (AUTOSAR) system by designers.

Presently, major carmakers have been implementing MOST technology in their multi-node infotainment networking systems, as it provides a low-risk system solution. It simplifies automotive networking and diagnostics and continues to predictably and efficiently transport video, audio, packet and control data throughout the vehicle. Microchip has been focusing on internet connectivity with the MOST150 featuring 150 Mbps performance. MOST interface controllers are a major component of Microchip's portfolio with over 170 million controllers installed in 184 car models.

ETAS, a subsidiary of Bosch, has been working on the integration of major elements of MOST technology into AUTOSAR, which has developed open software architecture for automotive electronic control units. AUTOSAR is increasingly being applied in traditional vehicle electronic domains. High quality standards, solid performance, reliability features, ease of use, pricing and diversity of products make Microchip one of the better-positioned companies in the semiconductor universe.

Microchip develops and manufacturers microcontrollers, memory and analog and interface products for embedded control systems, which are small, low-power computers designed to perform specific tasks.

Microchip currently sports a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Other stocks that look promising and are worth considering in the industry now include Broadcom Corp. BRCM, and NeoPhotonics Corporation NPTN each carrying a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) and Nitto Denko Corporation. NDEKY, carrying a Zacks Rank # 2 (Buy).
