Microsoft in foreign bribe probe

The Justice Department and SEC are probing allegations that employees of the software giant offered bribes or kickbacks to officials in China, Romania and Italy. Microsoft (MSFT) said any such allegations should be vetted by officials and its own compliance unit, in response to the story first reported by the Wall Street Journal. The paper said the investigation was sparked by a Microsoft whistle-blower. It's illegal for U.S. companies to pay bribes in foreign countries. Shares rose 0.3% to 28.18 .
