Total option volume tops 6.5 million contracts so far today, with mixed trading in the major indexes and ETFs, according to optionMONSTER data systems.
More than 1.3 options have traded in the SPDR S&P 500 Fund (:SPY), with 807,000 puts. Next up are the CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) options at 483,000, led by 314,000 calls. The iShares Russell 2000 Fund (:IWM) has 369,000 contracts changing hands, with a put/call ratio of more than 2 to 1.
The S&P 500 Index (:SPX) has seen 275,000 options turn over, with 170,000 puts. Following are the PowerShares QQQ Trust (:QQQ) options at 211,000, with calls slightly outpacing puts.
The iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Note (VXX) just topped 200,000, balanced between calls and puts. Close behind are the iShares Emerging Markets Fund (EEM) with 188,000, with calls outpacing puts by almost 3 to 1.
