Total option volume is relatively light today at just 4.9 million contracts so far, with the S&P 500-based products topping the index and ETF action, optionMONSTER data systems show.
The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (:SPY) has 493,000 options traded, with 288,000 puts. Next up are the CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) options with volume of 188,000 and a put/call ratio of 2 to 1. Following is the iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Note (:VXX) at 160,000, with 85,000 calls.
Just behind are the SPDR Gold Shares Fund (GLD) options at 153,000, led by 110,000 calls. The S&P 500 Index (:SPX) options have traded 150,000 times, with 96,000 puts.
The iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) has 144,000 contracts changing hands, with 80,000 puts. And the PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) has 85,000 options traded, with 48,000 puts.
