Total option volume continues to be relatively light with 4.9 million contracts traded so far, with major indexes and ETFs returning to the top of the list, optionMONSTER data systems show.
The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (:SPY) has 507,000 options traded, with 301,000 puts. Next up are the CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) options at 177,000, with calls outnumbering puts by more than 3 to 1.
The PowerShares QQQ Trust (:QQQ) has 156,000 contracts changing hands, with puts slightly outpacing calls. Following closely are the S&P 500 Index (:SPX) options at 152,000, led by 93,000 puts.
The iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Note (VXX) has 133,000 contracts turning over, with 74,000 puts. The iShares Russell 2000 Fund (:IWM) has 126,000 moving, with 71,000 puts.
The iShares Emerging Markets Fund (EEM) has 107,000 options traded, with 65,000 puts. And the SPDR Gold Shares Fund (GLD) just tops the 100,000 mark, with 60,000 puts.
