Total option volume is strong today at 6.2 million contracts so far, with relatively bullish sentiment in most of the indexes and ETFs, according to optionMONSTER data systems.
The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (:SPY) has 865,000 options traded, with 506,000 puts. Next up are the S&P 500 Index (:SPX) options at 380,000, though 195,000 calls outpace puts.
The iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Note (:VXX) has 153,000 contracts changing hands, led by 126,000 puts. Close behind are the CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) options at 142,000, with 89,000 calls.
The iShares Emerging Markets Fund (EEM) has seen 131,000 options turn over, with 73,000 calls. The iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) has 115,000 contracts, with 87,000 puts. The SPDR Oil & Gas Exploration & Production Fund (XOP) has 83,000 options traded, with 61,000 puts.
